Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) TANF helps needy families achieve self-sufficiency. This is done through a block grant states get to build and run programs, which help needy families. TANF support helps many parents reduce their dependency on government benefits by helping them find and enroll in career training programs while promoting work and marriage and preventing out-of-wedlock pregnancies. All of that encourages the formation and maintenance of two-parent families. To get a TANF application, please go to the POWER program on the DFS website.
