SBLS' legal staff provides legal representation in cases involving welfare and disability benefits, housing, family, education, health, employment and consumer law and has special projects representing HIV-positive individuals and senior citizens facing foreclosure due to predatory lending practices. We have a strong community education focus and develop materials and conduct training sessions on legal issues important to the ethnically and geographically diverse individuals and communities we serve. SBLS' mission is to seek equal justice for low-income people; to address their legal needs; to help empower poor people to identify and defeat the causes and effects of poverty in their communities; to focus on matters that will have the greatest impact for low-income people; and to work cooperatively with other agencies and organizations serving poor people.
