Founded in 1977, the Nebraska Council has a long history of providing research-based programs for prevention of alcohol and other drug problems. We have promoted low-risk alcohol use guidelines for adults, drug-free support groups for youth, and community coalitions to support prevention goals. Since 1987, we have emphasized preventing the first use of alcohol or other drugs by young people 10-15 years of age as a key to avoiding serious problems later in life. The Council also manages the Nebraska Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information under contract with the state. The Nebraska Council collaborates with other organizations to further its mission, and is affiliated with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
