The mission of the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is to provide opportunities for visual arts education and to develop visual arts awareness and appreciation throughout greater Augusta community. Established in 1937 by local artists, community leaders and one particularly dedicated art patron, Mrs. Olivia Antoinette Herbert, the GHIA campus is located in downtown Augusta. A memorial to Gertrude Herbert Dunn, Mrs. Herbert's daughter, GHIA achieves its mission through the following goals: * To coordinate, promote and develop visual arts awareness and appreciation. * To provide facilities for the teaching of art and to promote educational opportunities in art. * To provide support, educational enrichment and exposure for local, regional and national artists and their work.
