The mission of the Arizona Historical Society is to collect, preserve, interpret and disseminate the history of the State of Arizona and the West and northern Mexico as it relates to Arizona. This mission is accomplished through the professional use of our 25,000 artifacts, 750,000 photographic images, 50,000 books, 1,000 periodical titles, 1,000 manuscripts, 9,000 reels of microfilm, 5,000 maps, 12,000 biographical files, and 1,200 oral history interviews. The AHS serves 100,000 people annually through its educational programs both in-house and as outreach services to the community; most services are free of charge. The Society was founded in 1884.
